BJP Chief Nitin Nabin Targets Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav Over SIR, Defends Electoral Roll Revision

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin launched a strong criticism of the Opposition during a public campaign in Bihar on November 2, 2026, targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav over their allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Addressing a gathering in Bhagalpur after leading the BJP's “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” padyatra, Nabin defended the Election Commission's electoral-roll revision exercise and accused Opposition parties of spreading misinformation about the process.
Nitin Nabin Accuses Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav of Misleading People
Nabin criticised Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav for questioning the electoral process and the credibility of constitutional institutions.
Referring to the INDIA bloc's November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, the BJP president accused Rahul Gandhi of spreading misleading claims about SIR. He also alleged that Opposition parties were questioning electoral institutions after facing defeats in elections.
Nabin said the democratic mandate given by the people of Bihar should be respected and described the Opposition's allegations as an attempt to undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
BJP Defends the Special Intensive Revision Process
Defending SIR, Nabin said the exercise began in Bihar and that voters had been provided a 60-day window to submit claims and objections regarding the inclusion or deletion of names from electoral rolls.
He alleged that Congress and RJD failed to make adequate use of the prescribed mechanism to raise their concerns during the revision process.
According to Nabin, political parties had opportunities at different levels to examine electoral rolls and submit complaints. He questioned why Opposition parties were criticising the process after its completion.
These statements represent the BJP's position on the controversy.
BJP Highlights Its Electoral Victories in 2019 and 2024
During his address, Nabin also referred to the BJP's victories in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He said the party's electoral success was based on public support and its focus on development, welfare schemes and national security. He specifically rejected the suggestion that the BJP's victories were the result of the actions of any individual, including Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Nabin maintained that the people of India had given the BJP its electoral mandate.
BJP's 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' Campaign in Bihar
The Bhagalpur padyatra was part of the BJP's nationwide “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” campaign, organised to counter the INDIA bloc's allegations of electoral irregularities and criticism of the Election Commission.
Several BJP and NDA leaders participated in the programme, including Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, state BJP president Sanjay Saraogi and other party leaders and ministers.
The campaign is intended to communicate the BJP's position on electoral transparency, constitutional institutions and the SIR exercise.
Opposition Continues to Raise Questions Over SIR
Opposition parties, including the Congress and RJD, have continued to raise concerns about voter deletions, electoral-roll transparency and the functioning of the Election Commission.
Their criticism has kept SIR at the centre of the political confrontation between the BJP-led NDA and the INDIA bloc.
The latest remarks by Nitin Nabin have added another chapter to this debate, with both sides presenting different positions on the electoral-roll revision process and the role of constitutional institutions.
