Background & Career
Lalu Prasad Yadav was born on 11 June 1948 in Phulwaria, Gopalganj district, Bihar. He studied at Patna University and became involved in politics during the student movement associated with Jayaprakash Narayan. He entered electoral politics as a Member of the Lok Sabha in 1977 and later served as Chief Minister of Bihar from 1990. In 1997, he founded the Rashtriya Janata Dal and became its president. He subsequently served as Union Minister of Railways from 2004 to 2009 and continued his political activities through the RJD. His political career has been closely associated with Bihar's state politics, social justice politics, coalition politics, and national parliamentary politics.
