JD(U) Calls November 5 Meeting to Review Election Results, Warns Rebels of Strict Action

The Janata Dal (United) has called a meeting for November 5 to review its performance in the recent Bihar Legislative Council elections. The meeting is expected to examine the party's results in different constituencies and discuss action against leaders accused of going against official candidates.
The announcement was made by JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha on October 29.
Why Is JD(U) Calling a Review Meeting?
The JD(U) contested four seats in the recent Legislative Council elections under its seat-sharing arrangement with the BJP.
The party won the Patna Graduates' constituency through its candidate Neeraj Kumar but lost the other three seats it contested.
The results have led to questions within the party about campaign coordination and support from local leaders.
The November 5 meeting will allow the party leadership to examine the election results and discuss what went wrong in the constituencies where its candidates lost.
Sanjay Jha's Statement
Sanjay Kumar Jha said the party would review its performance and take strict action against rebels.
He also defended the decision to expel Mokama MLA Anant Singh and former MLA Neelam Devi for six years.
The party had accused Singh of going against its official position by supporting a Jan Suraaj candidate in the Patna Graduates' constituency.
The expulsion was a disciplinary decision taken by the party. Any separate decision about Singh's Assembly membership would have to follow the relevant constitutional procedure.
Internal Questions After the Election
The election results have created questions about how party workers and alliance partners supported JD(U) candidates.
Some defeated candidates have questioned the role of leaders from the BJP during the campaign.
These are political allegations and should not be treated as proven evidence of organised opposition within the alliance.
The November 5 review meeting may give the party leadership an opportunity to hear from candidates and local leaders.
What Could the Meeting Discuss?
The party is expected to examine its campaign strategy, candidate support and organisational coordination.
It may also discuss how to prevent internal disagreements from affecting future elections.
The meeting could be important for JD(U) because party discipline and coordination with alliance partners are major issues in a coalition government.
However, the final decisions will become clear only after the meeting and any official announcement by the party.
Why Is This Important for Bihar Politics?
JD(U) is one of the major parties in the ruling NDA alliance in Bihar. Its internal decisions can affect political coordination within the state government and the wider alliance.
The party's review may also provide information about how it plans to deal with disagreements among its leaders.
For now, the November 5 meeting is an internal party programme. It should not be treated as confirmation that any additional leader has already been expelled.
The next important development will be the decisions announced after the review meeting.
