Bihar Completes Life Verification for 1.03 Crore Pensioners; Madhubani Leads Beneficiary Verification

The Bihar government has completed life verification for more than 1.03 crore pension beneficiaries under its social security pension schemes, according to figures reported by The Hindu on October 22, 2026. The exercise aims to ensure the regular disbursement of pensions and improve transparency in the delivery of social welfare benefits.
Data from the Department of Social Welfare shows that verification has been completed for 1,03,13,620 beneficiaries out of a total of 1,16,71,188 registered pensioners. This represents 88.37% of the total beneficiary population.
However, life verification for 13,57,568 beneficiaries remains pending. Authorities have urged those who have not completed the process to do so as early as possible to avoid disruption in the administration of their pension benefits.
Madhubani Leads in Beneficiary Verification
Madhubani district has emerged as the leading district in beneficiary verification, according to the report. Patna, meanwhile, ranks first in the total number of pensioners.
The district-level figures highlight the scale of the verification exercise across Bihar, where a large number of residents depend on social security pensions for financial support.
Why Life Verification Matters
Life verification is an administrative process used to confirm that pension beneficiaries remain eligible to receive payments. It helps authorities maintain accurate records, identify discrepancies and ensure that public funds reach eligible recipients.
For elderly people and other beneficiaries who rely on regular pension payments, completing the required verification is an important step in maintaining access to social welfare assistance.
The process also supports accountability in the distribution of government benefits by enabling officials to update beneficiary records and address inconsistencies.
Over 13.5 Lakh Beneficiaries Yet to Complete Verification
Despite the high overall completion rate, more than 13.5 lakh beneficiaries still need to complete life verification. The remaining cases represent the next major task for the department as it works towards completing the exercise.
Authorities will need to ensure that beneficiaries are informed about the requirements and can access the necessary verification facilities, particularly those who face difficulties travelling or completing administrative procedures.
The latest figures underline the importance of efficient implementation of social security schemes and timely verification so that eligible pensioners can continue receiving their benefits without unnecessary hardship.
