Jan Suraaj Party has secured its first seat in the Bihar Legislative Council after candidate Suresh Prasad Rai defeated sitting Congress MLC Madan Mohan Jha in the Darbhanga Teachers’ constituency. Rai received 2,574 votes against Jha’s 2,187, winning by a margin of 324 votes and expanding the party’s presence in Bihar’s legislative politics.

The Janata Dal (United) expelled Mokama MLA Anant Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, for six years over alleged anti-party activities during the Bihar MLC elections. The action followed Singh’s support for Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Singh against JD(U) nominee Neeraj Kumar in the Patna Graduates’ constituency.
