INDIA Bloc Leaders in Bihar Take Out Aakrosh March Against ECI

INDIA bloc leaders and workers organised an Aakrosh March across Bihar on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to protest against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The protest was organised across all 534 blocks of the State. As part of the demonstration, protesters burned effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Protest in Patna
In the State capital Patna, the march began from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) State office on Beerchand Patel Path.
The protesters marched towards the Income Tax Golambar, where effigies of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Gyanesh Kumar were burned as part of the demonstration.
The protest brought together workers and leaders of parties belonging to the INDIA bloc, with the electoral-roll revision exercise emerging as the central issue.
Opposition Raises Allegations Over SIR
INDIA bloc leaders alleged that the Election Commission is acting in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party and raised concerns over the manner in which the Special Intensive Revision is being conducted.
The Opposition parties also alleged that the electoral-roll exercise could weaken democratic institutions and constitutional processes.
These are allegations made by INDIA bloc leaders and have not been established as facts.
The Election Commission's electoral-roll revision process has been defended by authorities as an exercise aimed at verifying and updating voter lists.
Statewide Political Mobilisation
The decision to organise demonstrations across all 534 blocks reflects the scale of the Opposition's campaign in Bihar over the voter-list revision issue.
The protests have also added another political dimension to the debate over electoral rolls in the State, with Opposition parties seeking to mobilise their workers and supporters around the issue.
The Aakrosh March comes amid wider Opposition protests against the Election Commission and its handling of the SIR exercise in different parts of the country.
Political Significance in Bihar
The electoral-roll controversy has become an important political issue in Bihar, where political parties are preparing for the next phase of electoral politics.
For the INDIA bloc, the protests provide an opportunity to raise concerns about voter-list revision and mobilise party workers at the grassroots level.
The BJP and the Election Commission have rejected allegations of political manipulation of the electoral-roll process, maintaining that voter-list revision is part of the electoral administration process.
The continuing disagreement is likely to keep electoral-roll revision and the role of the Election Commission at the centre of political debate in Bihar.
Expert View
The statewide Aakrosh March shows how the SIR exercise has become a major political issue for Opposition parties in Bihar. The key issue remains the competing claims over the electoral-roll revision process, with the Opposition raising concerns and election authorities defending the exercise as part of voter-list verification.
